RSS Channels

The Queen's News Centre publishes a number of XML RSS 2.0 feeds containing headlines about recently published press releases. RSS, or Rich Site Summary, allows web publishers to access constantly updated information from other web sites. For example, the Queen's News Centre provides an RSS feed for its Media Alerts section that web publishers and journalists can access. By using RSS aggregators, journalists can ensure that they receive the most up-to-date press release information as it becomes published on the Queen's News Centre site.

What is RSS?

RSS is a XML-based file format used by website authors to summarize website content into a file called an RSS feed that is easily shared with others. RSS feeds can be created for an entire website, or multiple RSS feeds can be created where each feed summarizes just a section of a more elaborate website. The resulting RSS feeds can be accessed by websites, web browsers and RSS aggregators. RSS feeds make distribution or syndication of a website very simple.

Current RSS standards come from more than one contributor. As a result, RSS has taken on a few aliases, including "Really Simple Syndication", "Rich Site Summary", and "RDF Site Summary". The Queen's News Centre site offers RSS feeds that conform to the RSS 2.0 Specification.
